Spring Time
February through April
Well... It seems I've been slacking on this monthly situation. So to catch up let's mush February, March, and April into one big fun story. It seems like a lot has happened in a few short months.

The Dark Days. February
Wow kind of a bummer that we are starting here because this was a dark month. No literally the sky was dark and cloudy, the days were short, and my patience and energy were thin. This was probably the toughest month I've spent up here. Any time I would get asked "Wow how are you going to deal with all that rain!?" — I would laugh and roll my eyes and think oh I'll be fine I freaking LOVE the rain. No no no I was wrong. And I don't admit that often so take that for what it is. Living in the dark winter up here was much harder than I thought. It takes a toll on your attitude, outlook, and energy. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful in it's own way and I'm thankful I got to experience it. BUT it was rough. I'm glad the sun is coming on back because Spring/Summer here is supposed to be amazing.
We did get to spend a really fun weekend up at Suttle Lodge near Sisters, Oregon babysitting for some friends while they were at a wedding! This lodge is amazing. Owned by the Ace Hotel chain (I think) and done up perfectly. Lots of awesome little kids which I would also like to think of as the most organic form of birth control available. It's always great to get out of the city for a weekend and play. |

Australia
To sum it up... Australia has ALWAYS been a dream of mine. I got to spend 9 days there in mid March! We stayed with four families who took us in and served us incredibly. I loved exploring this new culture and its lovely, laid back people. I was taken aback by the strong sense of community there and am now in the process of understanding what that will look like in my future. For more on this and more pictures check it out here...

Other Fun Stuff!
Multnomah Falls. We drive down the old Pacific coast highway and see a bunch of waterfalls. This is one of my favorite things to show people because it is unlike anything I have ever seen (Texas probs). There are some fun hikes and easy trails so it's always perfect. I love it the most when it's raining because the fog rolls through and makes me feel like I'm in a fairy tale.
Cannon Beach. This is the beach with that giant rock that never gets old. The beach here is not exactly warm and summery... It is generally colder and somewhat cloudy, but altogether beautiful in it's own way. I love getting to go out there 1) because the ocean always reminds me of how small I am and 2) because the town there is quaint and sweet and easy and makes everything move a little slower.
Downtown. There are around 5000 amazing coffee shops in downtown Portland. There are also an unimaginable amount of shops with handmade, organic, craftsman, tailored, vintage, leather items that I can never afford but LOVE TO LOOK AT (I know sooooo basic). Powell's Books is right there too. I hear it's the largest book store in America. The buildings are beautiful, the people are nice, the city is clean... what more could you really ask for?
Laurelhurst Park. I don't know how to describe this place in words. Pictures won't really do it justice either. Everything is green. Trees are giant and beautiful. Sometimes the sun is shining. This is such a happy place!

I left my heart in San Francisco... Again
I got to go to my favorite city with one of my new favorite people, Laura Grace. We celebrated her birthday, skipped around SF, and saw old friends. We saw Bon Iver on Thursday. We explored new places and old. We got to stay with my girl Kari and eat good food and drink good drinks. Saturday we "surfed" and basically gave our bodies to the waves to be beat down over and over and over again. I would love to say that we eventually got up and had a successful run, but we did not. It was a mega fail, but so worth the laughs and healthy dose of fear. I am so thankful for friends in SF for always making me feel like I can pick up where I left off.
