To Portland and Beyond
The time has come. A newsletter. Look forward to monthly roommate updates, outdoor adventures, pretty pictures and more fun stuff. But mostly pictures - likely a mix of film and iPhone 6.

Texas >>> Oregon
Ben (dad) and I drove a long 23 hours in 3 days. We stopped in Moab, Utah the first night, where dad is now planning on throwing his 50th bday party (shoutout to 2018). It was cool. Beautiful Arches and rocks and a cute town to shop and eat. 10 out of 10 stars from the Grimes family representatives.
We camped the second night in Idaho, outside of Boise. We pretty much winged it and found a random campground by a lake. Quiznos subs were eaten by the campfire and I made s'mores for dessert. We woke up to an incredible sunrise and bounced to Portland. Ben is a great travel buddy. Thanks dad for hanging out with me and easing my transition into this new crazy city. |

What are you doing in Portland?
I think most people know this, but here is a recap just incase. I am doing a 9 month program up here called the Portland Fellows Program. I live in a house with 5 other girls and am placed in a job at The Bible Project. Everyone has different jobs, but other than that we are together most of the week. There are also 5 boys doing a similar program, maybe I will introduce them next month.
Monday nights we go to bible study. Tuesday nights we eat dinner with a different family within the Portland community. Wednesday nights we have house meeting. Fridays we do community service at De La Salle High School. Weekends are for exploring the city, traveling, resting, house warming parties, etc. |
These are my roommates.....
Emma. From North Carolina. She has the pleasure of sharing a room with me. Together we average 6' 3" incase anyone was curious. She is an artist, a master of fengshui, a strong personality, always laughs and has never met a stranger.
Maddie. From San Antonio. Maddie is the designated mother of our house. She is kind and compassionate, always looking to help. She is also constantly the color red from embarrassment, but you get used to it. Lauren. From Michigan (if you hear her talk it's very clear). She is one of the funniest people I know. She is quick witted and joyful. Time spent with Lauren is always life giving. Emily. From California. Emily is a total adventure queen and loves hiking, working out and traveling. She is a very wise owl and just spent the last year on a college ministry team in Tennessee. Laura Grace. From Tennessee. My only fellow introvert. Praise. "LG" is as chill as chill gets. She is always down for anything. She has never smiled properly for a picture. We like the same kind of music which is always a good sign. If you want to get to know these ladies better, follow us on Instagram @hella_fellas. Viewer discretion advised. |
A few more thoughts.
This experience has been a blast so far. I have been in Portland for about 5 weeks now and am excited to see what the next 7 months have in store. I have loved getting to know this new, eclectic, fun group of people.
I want to write a little bit about what I have been learning and thinking about during my time here.

Fun photos.
